Vegans needed for documentary interviews

Casting for I'm Vegan has now begun!

I'm Vegan is a series of short documentary profiles that will feature vegans from all walks of life, perhaps including you! The project is is intended to address preconceptions about vegans and veganism, which may increase normalization of and appreciation for veganism. It is also expected that I'm Vegan will be a catalyst for some viewers to go vegan. Completed profiles will be distributed for free over the web so that anyone can share the videos with family, friends, and visitors to their own sites. A full-length documentary is also in the works.

To be considered as a potential profile subject for I'm Vegan, please:
  • Send 2 recent digital snapshots, one close-up and one full-length.

  • Share your city, state, and zipcode.

  • Answer the following questions:
    1. How long have you been vegan?

    2. Why are you vegan? (and/or What was your "A-ha!" moment?)

    3. What does veganism mean to you?

    4. What is your favorite thing about being vegan?

    5. What is your least favorite thing about being vegan?

    6. What are your favorite and frequent pastimes or hobbies?

    7. Please share any kind of interesting story related to your being vegan (interaction with family members, roommates, schoolmates, co-workers, or experiences at restaurants, cafeterias, etc., etc.).

    8. Why should you be interviewed for I'm Vegan?
Our route will take us all over the U.S., so if you live in a smaller town but are still highway accessible your submission will be considered.

My documentary project is fully financed

My documentary project, I'm Vegan, is a series of short profiles that will feature vegans from all walks of life. The project is being produced to address preconceptions about vegans and veganism. It will be distributed for free over the web so that fans can share the videos with visitors to their own sites. A full-length documentary will be cut from the raw footage by including select expanded profiles and incorporating a storyline that follows my journey around the country to meet and learn more about these vegans, as well as general observations on veganism itself.

I will drive around the U.S. from mid-March to Mid-May of 2009 to capture these profiles, and hope to have the first profile(s) up by early-to-mid-summer, with a new profile launched periodically as I work on the full-length documentary.

The website for the film is vegandocumentary.com. There's nothing at that URL at the moment, but I am developing the site with someone, and it will hopefully be launched by Thanksgiving. Hopefully I will have the presence of mind to remember to blog about it here when it goes live.

New project: a music video for 1945

Hi. I know it's been quiet this year. But no one really reads the blog on a regular basis anyway. Right now it's more for me to occasionally post what I'm up to for myself and a few friends, as well as the occasional Googler who clicks through here to watch one of the many Frankentrailers I posted a while back.

Lately I've been busy with relocating from Hollywood to Boston and starting a community-based non-profit organization. Since arriving, I've also gone out on more auditions for supporting roles than I was getting in L.A. before I left, and even started modeling (the only SAG-franchised agent here is also a top modeling agent), which is weird, but pays a few bills. Before the move at the end of the summer, I had spent the first half of the year putting together a new script (a horror movie) and trying to cast one of my comedies, which has now fizzled out, thanks to the WGA strike and, well, the total lack of financing.

Anyway, I suppose none of that is terribly newsworthy, but I am producing and directing a music video for the band 1945 here in Boston tomorrow, which is a nice change of pace. The job is a pretty quick turnaround, so hopefully I'll have something to put up here and at MySpace by Sunday.

Interesting experiment going on at Sundance this year

Going to Sundance again. I don't expect to blog as much about it as previous years. Only going the first half anyway. Things are pretty busy. Nothing I am prepared to announce here just yet.

At any rate, I am only posting to point out an interesting site that has been launched to create a sort of real-time "mob" for attendees to post pictures, comments and so on throughout the festival. For those that stumble across my blog looking for Sundance info, you may be interested in checking this out.

IDA Gala

Got in from the International Documentary Association's Awards Benefit at the Director's Guild a short while ago.

Inspiring stuff. Not the free food and sponsored bar, though those were nice (especially since there were at least minimal vegan options like tofu kabobs), but the speeches and clips of some of this year's best documentaries.

Al Gore gave a rousing speech drawing a line from the revolution of the printing press to today's documentary filmmakers. Jane Fonda, Morgan Freeman, Dermot Mulroney, Robert Wuhl and others made us laugh while reminding us of the work that documentarians do to bring truth to light, and honoring one of our great "light painters," Haskell Wexler.

I'm working on a documentary right now. Finally started actually shooting this past week, but I have a year or two of shooting ahead of me still, and tonight was a good shot in the arm to keep me focused on making a film that I hope will have a meaningful impact on our world.
